The best way to tell if you are about to hire the right photographer is to schedule a portrait consultation. If the photographer doesn't want to take the time to meet with you first, then you can be sure they won't spend the necessary time with you during your actual photography session. Typically this photographer will have a formulaic approach which dictates exactly how many poses and outfits you get and a time limit in which to accomplish this. This also means that there may be other people waiting their turn to be photographed which is why the time limit must be strictly adhered to. Aside from all of that, however, how does the consultation benefit you? If you've already booked your photographer, the consultation gives you the chance to meet with them first to discuss your vision for your portraits. If you haven't decided who will take your senior portraits, the consultation can confirm if this is the right photographer for you.
If you decide to schedule a consultation with Steadman Photography, here is what you can expect:
If you choose to work with us, you will leave the consultation feeling more relaxed now that you know what to expect, and your portrait session will become a much more personal experience. The results will be awesome pictures you will love and be proud to show others. They will be a beautiful reminder of this important time in your life. You arrive at our studio and you look around, thinking "how can my photos be different from my friends?" Afterall, many senior photographers have standard poses, props and backgrounds they use. However, you can take control of your portrait session so that the resulting photographs express your personality in a way that's different from anyone else. You are a unique individual and your photos should reflect that. One way to make sure that happens is to schedule a pre photo consultation. But even if you skip this step, your portraits can still be a one-of-a-kind knock your socks off expression of YOU!
All it takes is a little organization and pre-planning.
Many times we create our best portraits by catching you unaware, so don't be afraid to be yourself. Don't wait for our instructions, but mug for the camera and strike your own poses. We may just click the shutter and get the best photo of the session. Of course we're always there to guide and direct, but sometimes just being yourself can make a relaxed and natural looking portrait that everyone will love!
